Islander Clubs

Islander Clubs are the lifeline to the success of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Alumni Association. The Alumni Association invites alumni to join Islander Clubs within their region or to start one in their area. We believe that you are as excited about A&M-Corpus Christi as we are. This is why we want to build the Alumni Association and support our alma mater in its endeavors. Contact the president of the Islander Club in your area to get involved.

If there is not an Islander Club already in your area, start one.

Starting an Islander Club
Q. Why start an Alumni Club?
A. Alumni join together to promote A&M-Corpus Christi and the Alumni Association. And joining with former classmates can be an excellent way to network and build friendships.
Q. How do I start an Alumni Club in my area?
A. Call or e-mail the Alumni Office at 1-877-4TAMUCC, and we will give you a list of alumni in your area. Contact a few individuals on the list and form a Planning Committee. Together the committee can plan a first gathering at a restaurant, church or at someone’s house. Send a notice of the first meeting to the alumni in your area, or call them. Provide refreshments for everyone by having each planning committee member bring something or splitting the cost.
Q. How do we become an official Alumni Club?
A. Once you have 10 alumni members, send the charter application to the Development Office along with a list of members. We will assist you in establishing your alumni club.
The First Meeting
  • Choose a name for the group. It can be the name of your city or county. For Example, Brazos County Club. This makes it easier to identify the group when you send out an invitation to the next gathering.
  • Talk about the new look for Alumni Clubs.
  • Start with a social group that wants to promote A&M-Corpus Christi.
  • Start with the basics and grow from that point. Don’t try to do everything at once.
  • Add philanthropy and additional programming once your group is established.
  • Set up your gatherings calendar to include interests for all members by providing a variety of activities which are easy to attend and are at convenient times and locations.
  • At the first meeting, meet alumni and talk about lifestyles, career, family, home towns, college experiences, and hobbies.
  • Have each person fill out the information sheet.
  • Identify a contact person. Once your group is an official alumni club, the contact person will receive informational mailings from the Alumni Office.
  • Identify members who are interested in recruiting and promoting new members to the Alumni Club and get them involved.
  • Get everyone involved in the organization process. This keeps alumni active and interested.
  • Don't get discouraged if few show up the first time. This is normal and you can grow from this start-up group.
